A Day-Ahead Energy Management for Multi MicroGrid System to Optimize the Energy Storage Charge and Grid Dependency—A Comparative Analysis

Microgrid (MG) is a combination of distributed generators (DGs), energy storage systems (ESSs), and loads connected to distribution network that can either be in islanded mode or grid-tied mode. Similarly, multi-microgrid (MMG) system number interconnected MGs with larger complex network. Recently, the MMG management has created new challenges due inherent intermittency, uncertainty, probabilistic nature renewable based DGs output varying load demands. To ensure efficient operation optimal MMGs, this work proposes two-stage, day-ahead, simultaneous strategy (EMS) as well MG system. At first stage, each assumes day-ahead predicted demand output. second through EMS, scheduling, minimization main grid dependency, maximization stored ESS are managed simultaneously. Four case studies considered four different initial state charge (SOC) along demand. The proposed optimization model formulated standard form using MATLAB OptimProblem, compared heuristic flow-based EMS. Results show total dependency will reduced zero depth discharge (DoD) increased up 50% model.
